More Hilarious Webcomic Manager News

25 April 2008

The Firefox 3 transition may not be as difficult as I thought. I have a tentative update up and running on my Ubuntu (Hardy Heron OMG) machine, but there seem to be a couple caveats:

  • Firefox 3 treats Ctrl-Shift-H as a keyboard shortcut for a basic feature of the browser now. I'm not sure if this is the case on all the platforms, but the bottom line is that I'm probably going to have to move the shortcut for Hilarious. For now, I've mapped it to Shift-Ctrl-M (for manager).
  • The changes are so small that I hesitate to change the version number, especially considering the next point:
  • I still haven't heard back from anyone on Bookmark synchronization.

With the new version of Firefox shaking up a few of the standard features, like Bookmarks, I may be able to add a couple features that would prove useful, but on the flip side, HWM may no longer be necessary if the built-in features are robust enough. For the time being, I'm going to keep the current version of HWM online until I see a real need to change, and even then, the old version will be supported for a little while.
